A great team consisting of HUB members came and while they where learning how to build their own window farm they help in the construction of the HUB´s window farm.

What is HUBNet?

HUBNet is the new social media platform which will help facilitate connections, discussions and collaboration amongst the 4000+ HUB members all around the world! You can connect with Hubbers around common interests, find potential partners and identify great projects and people from around the global network as well as locally in HUB Brussels.

How does HUBNet work?

If you are a HUB member should have received an email inviting you to the platform. Discover all the usages and scope of this new platform and how HUBNet can help push your project to the next level!

What is the difference between HUBNet and Facebook?

The difference here is that it’s not based on friending and following. NationalField understands what office you’re in, who you report to, who reports to you, and what your role is , what departments need regular contact with you. It builds the feed based on that. You can search for specifics, but the feed is a predictive ”push” model.

HUB members  have received an email with allthe steps and information to go into the platform.

It is a great tool to contact with the members of your HUB and also with all the HUB members all around the world.

Coffee & Power is building a community tool for independent technology workers & others and the venues that support them. Using a  mobile app and community site you can find other tech people at coworking locations, see where people are typically working and what sort of work they are doing, chat with the people at the same location as you, do jobs for each other, build a resume of your work, and get certified and admitted to other groups within the network. Their system allows for users to send “loves” to one another (see their v1 of loves – http://www.sendlove.us) to recognize actions that support the community.  They also support coworking venues by allowing for users to check in to locations, identify community skill-sets available in the venue, post listings at a particular venue to request a need or offer a service and chat with folks checked in at the same location.

The new proyect of HUB Brussels in here!!!

The spring is here and the flowers  are blooming!! And the HUB doesn´t want to miss the opportunity of having nice and colorfull  spring atmosphere inside its world. For that a windowfarm will be the new and greenest member of the HUB soon.

But what is a windowfarm and why do we want to build it?

A Windowfarm is a vertical, hydroponic growing system that allows for year-round growing in almost any window. It lets plants use natural window light, the climate control of your living space, and organic “liquid soil.” In the hydroponic system, nutrient-spiked water is pumped up from a reservoir at the base of the system and trickles down from bottle to bottle, bathing the roots along the way. Water and nutrients that are not absorbed collect in the reservoir and will be pumped through again at the next interval.

The Bussels HUB team is very interested in the proyect because it is a community event that creates network of urban food production.

Signs in the windowfarms will challenge people to create their own and direct them to a website where we can all share photos, plans, designs, and information. Together, we will derive viable methods for growing food under the local conditions of our own homes.

Why Window Farms?

One of the perks of window farming is that there is no soil and therefore a lot less mess. Because the plants are grown in inert medium, there is a far smaller risk of plant disease and bug infestation. It is common knowledge that a veggie or fruit loses nutritional value after being picked. When you have a Window Farm conveniently hanging in your living room window (as I do) or even better, in the kitchen, you have direct access to the freshest produce available. This means you no longer have to eat peppers that have been sitting in the grocery store for an inordinate amount of time. On top of that you can grow food year round, and are not restricted to seasonal foods.

The sound that the water makes as it drips from each bottle to the next must be soothing, and is way more productive than a water fountain.

Lots of people came, the products that the sellers were showing were amazing and a broad range of different and interesting products were shown. The variety made the market successful! Diane´s pretty scarves and vintage dresses were very very cool.

Olivier’s hand made organic and anatomical puffs allow you to have a rest whilst helping you with great posture. They are limited edition and totally organically made.

There was a great broad range of different and innovative home-made, up-cycled and recycled jewls from earrings to necklaces and broaches.

And obviously to refresh….the bio beer, the successful mango beer and a delicious wine were offered by sunny happy Hosts.

We’re are tired after the first edition but have lots more great ideas about how to make the market even greater – which includes bringing producers who are maybe more male focused and some other great organic food makers. The vintage clothing concept isn’t always clear for everyone therefore in the run up to the HUB Sunday Store I’ve been doing some research and thinking more about this. I found a definition that says “Vintage clothing is a generic term for second hand garments originating from a previous era. The phrase is also used in connection with a retail outlet.” If we take into consideration what this definition says the vintage things must have been used before, but I don’t agree; there are lots and lots of shops that sell new vintage clothes which have been hidden in someone’s closet just waiting to be worn, often for decades.

But in attempting to be different and buy our clothes in a more sustainable way we find the high prize of vintage clothes an obstacle. Why are they so expensive?  Firstly many items are one-offs that people can’t buy anymore. Additionally, people are often looking for an unique style so will pay a bit more to have something that no one else will have. Clothes that were made years ago are considered as the antiques of today – often you find that the clothes were of a greater quality years ago which is why they are still in good condition today – from better fabrics and more complex sewing methods. I can’t imagine my high street clothes of today being around in a few months never mind 20 or so years.

And if the price is a problem for you, why not trying to sew your own vintage inspired clothes from vintage fabrics, which are generally easier and cheaper to come by; this is a creative and cheaper option to be different. Be vintage, be different!

Well, I am going to introduce myself a bit, I am a 23 years old girl who came from Baske Country, from Bilbao. Most of Spanish people say that Bilbao´s citizens  are presumptuous and arrogant, but  I think that we are just proud of us. Even I am not arrogant neither presumptuous  I am really proud of my origins.

Once I finished my studies ( marketing and business) in Bilbao I moved to the UK, to Newcastle exactly to complete my background. There I had lots of new and exciting experiences while I learn a lot about international business management.

Now I’m at the HUB; everything  started when I did this video, hope you like it.

At the beginning I can be very shy but once I know people everything goes easier and I become a very outgoing person.  I love doing different thing and discovering  new places  and new experiences. So  if you have any new and exciting plan it would be a pleasure to live these experiences with you.  I love the sea and everything linked with it, nevertheless I fears its strength. IF I COULD DESCRIBE MYSELF IN A SENTENCE I WOULD SAY THAT I AM I am not the best But I’m Not Like The Rest! I AM DIFFERENT. And to discover my difference you just have to read this blog.
