Hub Brussels 2010 Prediction

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Traditionally at new years, news media, technology blogs and psychics all get together and look in the crystal ball of the year to come, ranting out predictions on their segment. With Hub Brussels being so deeply engaged in many different industries, sectors and connecting to a wide and diverse age group of individuals and organisations we felt it appropriate to offer the comprehensive list of what we expect 2010 to offer.

THE CRISIS AND THE OPPORTUNITY

Every person, community, and society in the world is already, or will soon be, affected by the crisis, through climate change, economic breakdown, ecosystem collapse, population pressure, food and water shortages, resource depletion, nuclear and other threats. If we continue on our present unsustainable path, by mid-century the Earth could become largely uninhabitable for human and countless other forms of life. However, total system-collapse could occur much sooner caused by eco-catastrophes or escalating wars triggered by religious, geopolitical or resource conflicts.

These threats are real. The window of opportunity for pulling out of the current crisis and breaking through to a peaceful and sustainable world may be no more than a few years from now. This timeline coincides with the many forecasts and prophecies that speak of the ending of the current cycle of human life on this planet, and the possible dawning of a new consciousness by the end of the year 2012.

"Carbon footprint-What is next ?" debate organised by 3plusx in the Hub.

Friday, March 21st, 2008

Our friend Max von Abendroth from 3plusx wants to invite you to the following interesting workshop.

CARBON FOOTPRINT – WHAT IS NEXT?

The aim of this workshop is to take a critical look at the current hype of carbon footprint and to ask different players in the public debate to give their view on questions like

(1) How does the carbon footprint approach leverage the public awareness on sustainability?
(2)Is the idea of achieving carbon neutrality a sustainable approach?
(3) What are positive/negative side effects of the carbon footprint approach to other sustainability issues, like biodiversity, social justice etc.?
We already have one senior expert who will contribute to the debate and will call for a wider approach than the current carbon footprint scope. I would like to ask you to come up with ideas who else we should ask to give a brief scene setting introduction: preferably someone who is promoting carbon neutrality and a focus on carbon emissions, so we have the chance of a controversial debate. Please let me know as soon as possible!
The workshop will take place on Monday, 14 April at 18.00h at THE HUB BRUSSELS in the city center. Please save the date!
All the best,
Max

Climate Change – our options

Friday, September 28th, 2007

You may or may not agree, that policy makers are the only ones who can do something about climate change… in fact I don’t agree. But I do agree with the author of this video that not taking any action will cause the worst possible scenario…. chaos and destruction!

So what will you do about climate change?

There are plenty of options:

Resources and hints on Al Gore’s website

We are what we do has plenty of tips

and so does WWF

and Earthdaynetwork

and Friends of the Earth
